Recruiting soon for MS student
September 6 - I anticipate on opening for an MS student starting Spring 2017 to lead a project investigating monitoring protocols for river otters. The project will evaluate bridge-sign surveys, remote cameras, and aerial surveys as methods for determining otter distribution and abundance. If you are interested feel free to contact me.
New grant to study wolf predation
January 4 - We have received a grant from the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station for an MS student to study wolf predation on white-tailed deer in Wisconsin. The project will use field investigations of satellite collar cluster to identify wolf kill-sites. The project will begin this fall.
Post-doc positions available
January 4 - In collaboration with USGS and NPS, we are recruiting a post-doctoral research associate to lead the development of hierarchical demographic models to understand the relative impacts of bald eagle recovery, climate, and habitat management on piscivorous birds in Voyageurs National Park. The project is funded for 1.5 years and will be housed in the Zuckerberg lab at UW-Madison. Review of applications will likely begin in February.
January 4 - In collaboration with WDNR we are recruiting a post-doctoral research associate to lead the development of black bear and bobcat population models using statistical population reconstruction and integrated population models. The project is funded for 2.5 years and will be housed in the Van Deelen lab at UW-Madison. Review of applications will begin January 1.
Papers appearing in print
Fall 2015 - Several of our recently accepted manuscripts have appeared in print with their respective journals. These include Strassburg et al. (Human-Wildlife Interaction), Aagaard et al. (Wildfowl), and Forcey et al. (Journal of Wildlife Management). See the Publications page for details.

Bryn Evans wins best poster!
February 19 - Bryn Evans won the award for the best graduate student poster presentation at the MN/WI TWS meeting in Duluth for her poster on semi-aquatic mammals in the St. Louis River. Keep up the good work Bryn!
New paper accepted for publication
November 26 - Our paper on the effects of increased resource availability on white-tailed deer home-range patterns was provisionally accepted for publication in Northeastern Naturalist today.
Welcome to Bryn Evans!
August 14 - We are happy to welcome Bryn Evans to the lab. Bryn will be pursuing her MS in Wildlife Ecology at UW while investigating the effects of human stressors on furbearer populations in the St. Louis River estuary.
New post-doc position!
July 1 - I'll soon have a legitimate excuse to watch Big 10 football, as I'll be starting a new post-doc position with the University of Wisconsin. I'll be working in collaboration with personnel from Wisconsin DNR to develop monitoring protocols for wolves in the state.
